Fearful anxieties, get out of my heart Do not come to disturb my delight.Oh, how it seems that to amorous fires The comfort of the place, Earth and heaven respond, Oh, it seems that earth, heaven and this place answerer my hearts amorous fire.
Oh, come, dont be late, my beautiful joy Come where love calls you to enjoyment Until nights torches no longer shine in the sky As long as the air is still dark And the world quiet. Here the river murmurs and the light plays That restores the heart with sweet ripples Here, little flowers laugh and the grass is fresh Here, everything entices one to loves pleasures Come, my dear, among these hidden plants. Da Ponte also wrote the libretti for Mozarts The Marriage of Figaro (1786) and Cosi fan tutte (1790). The opera was commissioned in 1787, and by October 28, 1787, Mozart had completed it. Don Giovanni is based on the legends of Don Juan; the content likely is chosen to honor Pragues long-held tradition on Don Juan operas. It was registered as an opera buffa (comedy opera) but contains melodramatic and supernatural elements as well. A day after its completion, Mozart conducted the premiere performance in Pragues Teatro di Praga, and much to his delight, the opera was a fantastic success. According to the statistics compiled by Operabase, a company to which over 700 opera houses report their performances, Mozarts D on Giovanni was the 10th most performed opera in the world.
